CBI Judge refuses Ram Rahim’s plea of mercy and termed his conduct that of a “Wild Beast”

Sometimes to do the right thing, a man needs more than just courage to stand against the tyranny and monstrosity with the sheer will to bring justice to the victims who faced it. CBI Special Judge Jagdeep Singh, showed the utmost dedication and bravery in convicting the self-proclaimed “Messenger of God” Dera Sacha Sauda Chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Insa, for allegedly raping two of his women followers, 15 years ago, despite knowing the destructive capabilities of his followers which “Punjab” and “Haryana” witnessed in the wake of his conviction, he didn’t budge to do the right thing. He stated that no mercy should be granted to a “wild beast” as his conduct is beyond forgiveness. Ram Rahim has tried his teary antics in the court but Singh showed no mildness while sentencing him with absolute Justice.

In the beginning of the issue, Ranjeet Singh, Brother of one of the rape victim got killed 15 years ago because his sister wrote the anonymous letter wherein she alleged Dera Chief for repeatedly raping her and many other girls in his “gufa” (Cave) in the name of “maafi” (Pardon). Later, a journalist also got himself killed when he tried to expose Dera chief. Even when CBI knocked the doors to investigate the cave, his supporters refused to let the CBI officials enter the cave as their “Baba” gave no such instructions to them. They barged the gates for next 15 years.

It is really amusing to observe how Justice finds its way into the darkest of places. Judge Jagdeep Singh proved that one man is all required to bring the change. He is a competent, tough and upright judge as claimed by his colleagues in the legal fraternity.

In the Aftermath of his Conviction, Punjab and Haryana suffered riots and mayhem performed by thousands of followers that ended after claiming 36 deaths and hundreds of injuries. Buses and train coaches burned, media vehicles destroyed and destruction of public property worth of several crores, led the security forces act furiously to avert the protesters and maintain peace. They fired gas shells, pellet guns, to disperse the crowd and in many parts of the Punjab and Haryana, there are many reports of conflict between State Police and protesters.

Judge Jagdeep Singh is being called as the “Man of the Moment” who has stood firm in the face of the extreme pressure and has remained loyal to the Judiciary system of India. For the reasons of security and to prevent rioters to demonstrate another act of violence, Court decided to transform the Rohtak Jail into a Special Court, protected with security measures of a Fortress. He flew to the Rohtak Jail to pass the sentence on August 28 and awarded the Self-proclaimed “Godman” Ram Rahim, 10 years of imprisonment twice in both cases that will be executed consequently.

Academic and professional life of Jagdeep Singh

In this day and age of information overload, it is pleasantly surprising to see that there is very little information about Jagdeep Singh.

An Additional District and Session Judge Rank official, Singh was designated as the Special CBI Judge last year. This is his second posting as the Judicial Officer.

  1. He hails from Jind, one of the oldest district of Haryana. He received his law degree from Punjab Law university in 2000.
  2. He began his law career in Punjab and Haryana Court as a litigator in both civil and criminal cases.
  3. In 2012, he joined Haryana Judicial services and got his first posting in Sonipat.
  4. In 2016, he was posted to the CBI court. Such kind of promotion can only be achieved with absolute struggle.
  5. He is considered a man who’s action speaks louder than his words and because of people like him, the hope of creating a better world shall never be vanish.

Case Background

15 years ago, Two rape victims claimed to be repeatedly raped by Ram Rahim in the name of “Maafi” (Pardon). The case was registered after a letter written by one of the victims found its way to the Court. Ranjit Singh, the brother of the victim was suspected to be behind the anonymous letter written by the Sadhvi. He was then murdered by the Dera supporters after two months, even a journalist who spotlighted the story and alleged the Dera chief for his wrongdoings got himself killed too. The case in on.

Singh as a “Good Samaritan”

In Sep 2106, while traveling from Hisar to Panchkula, he found four seriously injured people on his way. They were in dire of medical attention as the road accident was massive and no one’s there to help them. Singh immediately called the Ambulance, but when the operator called him “will the ambulance come flying?” he stopped a private vehicle and took the injured by himself to a hospital in Jind district. This act of mercy got the highlights of Media and turned Singh into a Godly man.
