Supreme Court concludes Hearings in Section 377 case

The Supreme Court concluded hearing a clutch of pleas challenging the constitutional validity of section 377 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on Tuesday.

A five-judge constitution bench comprising CJI Dipak Misra, Justices R F Nariman, A M Khanwilkar, D Y Chandrachud and Indu Malhotra reserved its judgement on the contentious issue following detailed hearing of four days, which had commenced on July 10.

The SC bench has asked the all the counsels, who had argued for and against section 377 to file written submissions of their claims by this Friday, July 20.

The ruling in the case is likely to be pronounced before October 2 this year, before the tenure of Justice Misra expires.
