As reported on 3rd March, 2020, a three judge Supreme Court bench headed by Justice Arun Mishra dismissed the former Maharashtra Chief Minister's plea that sought review of a 2019 verdict wherein Fadnavis was directed to face trial. It was contended that he failed to furnish details of two pending criminal cases against him in his 2014 election poll affidavit. The judges put forth that there was no ground where the verdict could be reviewed again.

"We find no ground to interfere in the review petitions. The same are dismissed," said the bench also comprising Justices Deepak Gupta and Aniruddha Bose.

Fadnavis in his review plea stated that there was a "clear error" in the Apex Court's Judgement. The 2019 judgement had set aside the Bombay High Court order that had given a clean chit to Fadnavis and further held that he did not deserve to be tried for the alleged offence under the Representation of People's Act 1951.

The two complaints filed against Fadnavis include that of alleged cheating and forgery which were filed in 1996 and 1998 but charges were not framed.
