The Rouse Avenue Court of Delhi today (January 18, 2020) reserved its order on the Delhi Assembly Speaker, Ram Niwas Goel’s plea to put on record additional documents in his appeal against his conviction in a 2015 trespass case. 

A single judge bench comprising Special CBI Judge, Ajay Kumar Kuhar was hearing the matter.

The Court heard the matter wherein Goel was convicted under Section 448 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860 for trespassing a house belonging to a competing political party’s member. Goeal and his supporters had allegedly trespassed the house of a local builder, Manish Ghai situated in Vivek Vihar on the 6th of February 2015, just a day before the Delhi Assembly Polls. 

Goel was sentenced with imprisonment for six months with a fine amounting to Rs. 1000. Thereafter, he had filed an appeal before the Sessions Court under Section 389 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 to set aside the sentence.
