Delhi Women Commission takes Cognizance of the “Bois Locker Room” and writes to Instagram and Delhi Police

New Delhi:On Monday i.e. 4th May 2020, the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) took notice of news on 'Bois Locker Room,' an Instagram chat group where offensive remarks were made about minor females.

DCW has given alerts to the Instagram as well as Delhi Police Social Media Network after revealing screenshots of the group's lurid conversations have recently appeared.

DCW took SuoMoto Cognizance of the conversations between minor school boys in this group, which revealed that they shared private photographs of underage girls, sexualized them, and threatened to rape minor girls.

It is reported that the group is used for sharing objectionable pictures of minor girls and young women along with their personal information. The members of the group have been reported to have discussed techniques of raping women and gang-raping minors”, notice stated by DCW.

Stating that this group is made up of a few hundred participants, DCW Chairman Swati Maliwal highlighted the gravity of the issue, as many criminal operations are reportedly being carried out on an open media forum.

The commission has received several screenshots of the group wherein the handle names and the usernames are clearly visible. This is a very serious matter as an open media platform is being used for illegal activities”.

In view of the seriousness of the situation, an investigation has beenlaunched and Instagram and the Delhi Cyber Police were asked to respond by 8thMay. Names of the group managers were obtained, along with details on the action taken by the Social Media Site in this context.

The group is recorded to be operated by boys between the ages of 16-18 years of age living in South Delhi, and including boys as young as 13-14 years of age. ‘Bois Locker Room’ is often known to be used to display naked and morphic photographs of underage females, in addition to objectification and obscene speech.The issue raised a range of questions regarding the protection and privacy of women, particularly minor girls, on video sharing platforms.
