Delhi HC Judges pays inspection visits to district courts in the capital

In an attempt to assess the functioning of the Subordinate Judiciary, Delhi High Court Judges paid surprise visits to the district courts in the capital this morning and unexpectedly found many them coming late.

An inspection team under the supervision of substitute Chief Justice of Delhi High Court Gita Mittal today made a surprise visit to the Patiala House Court complex. Similar assessments carried out in various sections of Capital by other Senior Judges of High Court like Justice Ravindra Bhatt inspected the Tis Hazari Court, Justice Sanjiv Khanna visited the Rohini Court, Justice GS Sistani appeared at Karkardooma Court, Justice S Muralidharan went to Saket Court, Justice Vipin Sanghi visited Dwarka Courts.

The team was assembled for the only purpose to discover the punctuality standards of District Court Judges as a reports alleged many Judges coming late to their posts. The Judges were expected to arrive at 10:00 AM, instead they were coming 30 minutes late which is very disappointing.

A list of these judges has been drawn, with strict actions likely to be taken against them.

The Delhi High Court has been preparing for this surprise inspection from past few months and kept close eyes on laxity and impropriety in the subordinate judiciary. In April, Additional District and Session Judge Raj Kapoor in the Patiala House, was relieved from his post by the order of acting Chief Justice of Delhi High Court Gita Mittal for granting 3 months of interim bail to the promoters of Unitech.

In a strong message to judicial officers, Delhi High Court recently terminated the services of Nitesh Gupta, son of Meghalaya High Court Judge VP Vaish, four days before he was set to take charge as Metropolitan Magistrate in Tis Hazari Court on August 9, for not providing satisfactory explanation with respect to interest free loans taken by him to the tune of Rs. 5.73 crore.
