Delhi Government orders unaided private schools to refund excess fee

On Wednesday, Delhi Government ordered 575 unaided private schools to pay back the excess fee along with 9% interest they charged from parents.

The order was issued by the Directorate of Education (DoE) after a committee constituted by the Delhi High Court examined the records of 1,169 schools – with reference to implementation of the recommendations of the 6th Pay Commission in 2008.

A  DoE official, who is handling the matter, said “Strict action would be taken against schools failing to comply with the recommendations made by the committee, which could also include taking over of the institute by the DoE as per government rules”.

The schools have been provided with a week’s time to comply with the orders made by the committee and have also been directed to ensure that teachers are paid salaries as per rules.
