Cauvery water dispute: Supreme Court dismisses Karnataka's review petition

The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed Karnataka government's review plea seeking to modify the apex court's earlier order to release 6000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu.

The Karnataka Government was seeking a review of the Court’s order that directed Karnataka to release 6000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu from September 20 to 30, since the said period is over.

On March 21, a Supreme Court bench headed by Justice Dipak Misra had said all interim orders of releasing 2,000 cusecs of Cauvery water by Karnataka would continue to be in force till further orders.

The Karnataka government had earlier stated that any further water release would "cause irreparable injury" to the state.

The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the final hearing of Cauvery water disputes from July 11. The Court will continue the hearing for the next 15 days.

The River Cauvery water dispute has been a ground for war for Karnataka and Tamil Nadu for many decades now.
