Bid to save traders from sealing: Delhi Government submits in SC list of 351 roads for mixed land usage

New Delhi :While the political sparring  between the political parties continue on who is to be blamed for ongoing sealing drive in Delhi, the AAP led Delhi Government submitted in SC list of 351 roads in the capital which are to be brought under commercial and mixed-land use categories. This can help traders from the ongoing sealing drive.

Pending for over 10 years, the draft notification for declaring 351 roads as commercial or mixed land-use was on Monday submitted to the Supreme Court.

Delhi Urban Development Minister Satyendar Jain said, “Delhi government has submitted the notification of the 351 roads to the Supreme Court. We are hopeful that the Supreme Court will allow it and the roads will be notified as quickly as possible.”

MCD had submitted list of these roads in 2007 to Delhi Government. But it remained pending as the three newly formed Municipal Corporations of Delhi had not certified that a survey had been done to see if these roads could have commercial activity according to the Master Plan of Delhi-2021.

This was done by three corporations only recently and post that Delhi Government prepared the notification and submitted the draft notification with the SC.

Recently to discuss how to stop sealing, an all party meeting was held at the residence of Arvind Kejariwal, the CM of Delhi. During this meeting it was suggested that Delhi Government use the services of top lawyer to represent their case. Responding to this, Satyender Jain said senior lawyers  Arvind Datar and Parag Tripathi will represent  the Delhi Government in the Supreme Court .He added that the Centre and the Delhi Development Authority should appoint senior lawyer Harish Salve to represent them in the case.

Since December 2017, on the orders of the Supreme Court-appointed Monitoring  Committee ,the municipal corporations of Delhi have been carrying out a drive to seal  unauthorised commercial establishments .
