The Bar Council of India has strongly opposed an incident which took place in Etah, Uttar Pradesh, where an advocate was dragged and assaulted mercilessly by Uttar Pradesh Police. Union Home Minister, Amit Shah has also been asked by the BCI to take necessary actions against the said matter and to make legislations to protect the lawyers of the country.

The Council stated that, there is no limit to the crimes committed by the Uttar Pradesh Police and it has exceeded all boundaries. The footage of this incident got viral, and the entire country had observed it.

The Council also stated that, not only Uttar Pradesh, but also Bihar, West Bengal and many more States had witnessed this type of treatment by the police officials. The Council also contended that this type of action cannot be expected from the protectors of law and order. According to the resolution, the Council will conduct a joint meeting with the representatives of state Bar Councils within 3 to 4 days to decide the future course of action.
